Elevated Hardscape Solutions, From Concept to Completion
What We Do
Three Ways We Work With You
Pedestal Paver / Tile Consulting
Technical guidance during design and pre-construction, before costly mistakes get built into the plans.
Cost Estimating
Budget-level and detailed estimates grounded in real national project data, not generic assumptions.
Pedestal Paver / Tile Installation
Our core specialty — expert installation of pedestal paver and tile systems on rooftops, terraces, and elevated structures nationwide.
How Pedestal Paver Systems Work
Water flows freely underneath the pavers to the deck’s drains, instead of sitting on the surface or being trapped against a roof membrane.
Pedestals can be raised or lowered individually, creating a level, walkable surface even over a sloped or uneven structural deck.
Because pavers rest on pedestals rather than being fixed in place, individual pavers can be lifted for inspection or repair of what’s underneath — without breaking anything apart.
On exposed rooftops, ballasted or mechanically fastened pedestal systems are engineered to resist wind uplift — a requirement that doesn’t exist in ground-level installation.
The pedestals themselves are typically adjustable-height supports engineered to bear the load of the paver material above and distribute it evenly across the structural deck. System selection — pedestal height, paver material, and fastening method — depends on the specific project: roof slope, drainage plane, wind exposure, and the finished look the design calls for.
Where a Pedestal Paver System is the Right Choice
Common Applications
Rooftop Decks and Terraces
Any occupied space built on top of a roof membrane needs a system that protects that membrane while providing a walkable, finished surface and allows access to it for maintenance.
Podium and Plaza Decks Over Structural Slabs
Parking structures, below-grade construction, and elevated plazas often need adjustable-height pavers to manage complex drainage planes and utility access underneath.
Uneven or Sloped Structural Decks
Adjustable pedestals compensate for slope and unevenness that would make a mortar-set or sand-set installation impossible without extensive additional structural work.
Projects with Strict Roof Warranty Requirements
When a roofing manufacturer's warranty depends on the membrane being protected and undisturbed, pedestal systems — installed correctly — are often required, not optional.
Green Roof and Vegetative Roof Systems
Pedestal pavers create accessible pathways and gathering areas within green roof installations, without disturbing the growing mediun.
When to Bring APS National In
For projects involving elevated construction, roof coordination, or structural decks requiring long-term protection and accessibility, a pedestal paver system is worth evaluating early. Engaging APS National during schematic design phase ensures we can help select the right system for your specific deck requirements while safeguarding material lead times.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does APS National provide for services?
APS National is not a manufacturer — we’re a specialty contractor in pedestal paver and tile system installation. We offer three connected services: Consulting, where we review system selection, drainage, and structural requirements during design; Cost Estimating, providing budget-level and detailed numbers grounded in real project experience; and Installation, our core specialty, executed to the same standard on every project. Each is available on its own or as part of a full project.
When should we bring APS National in — how early is too early?
Earlier is better. The most value comes from involving us during schematic design or early construction documents, before drawings are finalized. That said, we can also review plans later in the process. We’ll just have less room to influence decisions without triggering rework.
Do you only recommend certain paver manufacturers?
No. We’re manufacturer-neutral. We install and consult across every major paver system on the market (concrete, porcelain, wood deck tile, ballast, and green roof assemblies). Our recommendations are based on what the project needs structurally and aesthetically, not on a preferred vendor relationship.
Is consulting only useful for rooftop and elevated projects?
Elevated work is where our consulting adds the most value, since it involves risks like roof warranty compliance, wind uplift, and structural coordination that ground-level installation doesn’t. We also consult on ground-level hardscape projects, though the technical stakes are typically lower.
Do we need to also hire APS National for installation if we use your consulting service?
No. Consulting stands on its own and some clients bring us in purely for technical review and use their own installer. That said, many clients find it efficient to carry the same team from consulting through installation, since we already understand the project’s specific requirements.
What happens after a consultation — what's the next step?
We provide our findings and recommendations directly to your design or project team. From there, most clients move into a cost estimate, either with APS National or their own estimator, using our technical input as the basis. If you’d like, we can walk you through cost estimating next.
